This jaw movement sounds terribly familiar…

Is this not simpler? Is this not your natural state? It’s the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave body. The bright lure of flat irons diminishes your life’s joy in a mad scramble for crimping. For volume. You were made to be permed. In the end, you will always curl.

Are you saying this to her or to your reflection on the glass?

Just saying…

Bingo, extremely insightful comment.

guys, I know that he’s projecting like hell here but I’m pretty sure he’s not literally supposed to be taking it out on himself I’m pretty sure that shot’s so we can see how vicious he looks as he says this while still looking at her this is what we call a happy accident

uh or it’s INTENTIONAL… on the part of the creators.

It looks intentional. I can be wrong but it looks like he’s looking at himself and not at her.

my feelings hurt

It’s definitely intentional because underneath that viciousness you can see just a tinge of hurt and anguish, the “child” underneath the monster. He’s projecting, there’s not doubt about that, he projects throughout the entire movie but in this scene, he is talking to himself but he is talking to Natasha as well because he understands Natasha’s background.

He’s calling himself pathetic for his own base sentimentality when it comes to his family. In the same way he mocks the idea of Thor’s sentimentality on Stark Tower even while a stray tear falls from his own eye. Because no matter how much he wants to, he just can’t help but feel the loss of everything he feels he just gave away by rejecting Thor’s offer of help.

Regarding shots, angles, lighting, cinematography, editing, etc…basically everything but the actual acting, there is almost never anything ever accidental about filmmaking. That’s why there is a director and a cinematographer and director of photography. Each and every single frame of a shot is planned out. Whatever the actor brings to it (in this case a very talented actor that knows his character very, very well) only adds to what the aforementioned crew members have already created.

basically all this yes yes
